Toyota Motor Corp (NYSE:TM): Current Price $94.78

Toyota Motor Corp (NYSE:TM) is taking an oft-used legal strategy to put its sudden acceleration lawsuits in the rear view mirror — take the settlement route for litigation cases where the risk of an adverse judgement is high and fight those that could end up in its favor. The settlement route also has the advantages of lower adverse media publicity, avoids the submission of sensitive data in courtrooms which could be used in other lawsuits and most important, allows the company to focus on its core business. Toyota has adopted this route in its sudden acceleration litigation involving more than 300 lawsuits pending in state and federal courts. It has moved to settle out of court two high-profile cases among these, one brought by retired police officer Michael Houlf and the other by the family of Paul Van Alfen. Terms of settlement were not available.

JP Morgan Chase (NYSE:JPM) will release an internal report of its investigation of the London whale investment fiasco in which the bank lost more than $6 billion. The 50 page report is the outcome of an investigation conducted by Mike Cavanagh, the bank’s former chief financial officer.
