Disney’s ‘Brave’ Poised to Open BIG and 4 More Media Titans Making Waves

Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX): When offering on-demand video service,  Comcast (CMCSA +0.6%), Time Warner (TWC +0.5%), and other cable providers  run their own Internet and force data usage caps upon customers. The DoJ investigates these matters at the behest of Hulu, Netflix (+1.4%), and other streaming firms, stating that cable companies unjustly rebrand the public web as its private product.The shares traded up $1.86 (2.83%) recently at $67.6999.

Time Warner Cable Inc. (NYSE:TWC) is teaming with Verizon Wireless to provide  “greater choice, value and convenience” to new and existing customers via its wireless and entertainment packages. Green Bay, Appleton, Oshkosh, and Southeast Wisconsin customers are now able to purchase Time Warner cable video, Internet, voice services, and Verizon Wireless smartphones and tablets, and could be eligible for a $200 prepaid debit card. Customers are able to select any combination of services including video, Internet, home phone, and mobile services.  The shares traded down $0.35 (0.45%) recently at $77.88.

Walt Disney Co. (NYSE:DIS) plans to see an impressive $55M-$65M box office haul with the release of Brave this weekend, as booming sales for movies intended for an audience of younger children continues. On the other hand, films aimed toward teenagers show weak totals, and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by Fox (NWSA -0.1%) has tipped to open low as will other debuting movies for teenagers.

Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ:CMCSA): NBC’s ratings slip with its news division. The Today Show’s 16-year lead in the morning slot was broken by ABC’s (NYSE:DIS) Good Morning America, and Meet the Press and NBC Nightly News have also slipped. This loss of momentum could cause a change in advertising dollars during the important election year.
