Do Ford’s South America Pains Bother These Top Institutional Shareholders?

Ford Motor (NYSE:F) forecast a first-quarter loss of about $300 million for its South American operations due to currency exchange rates, inflation, and trade restrictions, reports Bloomberg. “Weakening currency and inflation pressure will challenge our profits and margins in 2013,” stated Joe Hinrichs, Ford’s president of the Americas. These decisions by Brazil and Argentina to limit imports from Mexico also affected the sales of its Mexican-built Fusion and Fiesta cars, he stated. The regional loss will put additional pressure on Ford’s operations in North America, where the Dearborn, Michigan-based company posted record pretax profit and operating margin for 2012. The second-largest U.S. automaker has forecast a full-year loss totaling nearly $2 billion in Europe, as it targets breaking even in South America and Asia.

These institutional firms indicated owning shares of Ford in Q4 2012. They reported owning a total of 2.72 billion shares on 12/31/2012. The shares closed at $12.86 on 12/31/2012.
