Fab.com Launching New and Improved iOS App

Fab.com, a shopping app that describes itself as a place to find design inspiration and sales, has launched a new and improved iOS app for its mobile users. The site with about 2 million members says its new app will feature an updated design and layout, easier navigation, and the inclusion of its newly released storefronts or “Fab Shops.” The mobile app features over 20 shops to choose from and the ability to search by shop, price, or color.

Fab.com reports that since the debut of its mobile app in October 2011, sales have soared. The company says that iPad users purchase four times as much as traditional Internet users and iPhone users purchase twice as much. iPad orders are also larger than web purchases. The company also said the mobile purchases account for a quarter of all purchases, so it makes sense to focus on the mobile avenue.

The new Fab.com app is available in the iTunes App Store and the company also says that an iPad specific app is in the works. After viewing the site, I’m left with only one question: how will Fab.com set itself apart from other similar sites and apps?

Sites that bare a striking resemblance to Fab.com have frequently spammed my inbox, not to mention the many similarities between Fab.com and Pinterest. Fab.com seems to be a shopping-focus Pinterest minus the social interaction ability. This start up will have to work hard to prove itself superior or unique in some form or fashion.
