Family Dollar Stores and 4 Stocks Breaking to New 52-Week Highs

Looks like you’ll have a few more ears of corn to put on the grill this summer. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has adjusted its projected U.S. corn stocks for 2011-2012 to 851 million bushels, up 50 million bushels from previous assessments. Corn ending stocks for the U.S. are also expected to pop for 2012-2013, rising to 1.9 billion bushels—1 billion more than previously projected. Global coarse grain supplies for 2012-2013 are also expected to increase, up 6% from the prior year to 1,389.2M tons. Shares for Archer-Daniels-Midland (NYSE:ADM) closed up $0.84 for the day at $33.50. They have traded in a 52-week range of $23.69 to $33.35.

Beacon Roofing Supply (NASDAQ:BECN) shares closed at $25.25, down 2.47% on the day. For the 52-week range, shares of Beacon have traded between $14.59 to $27.51.

Baking soda: Now more popular than ever! Consumer goods manufacturer Church & Dwight Company (NYSE:CHD) , which recently posted a better-than-expected Q1, says their year is off to a great start but that the year ahead could be a rocky one.  The producer of Arm & Hammer products sees a 2012 business environment that includes continued weak consumer spending, volatility in commodities, competitive pressure, and struggle for retailers. Church & Dwight closed steady at $53.19, up $0.16 on the day. They have traded in a 52-week range of $36.78 to $53.17.

Texas-based Firstcity Financial (NASDAQ:FCFC) reported a year-over-year rise in earning per share, coming in at 80 cents per for 2012 as compared to 36 cents for the same period in 2011. Shares closed the day at $9.69, up 17.74%. They have traded in a 52-week range of $5.79 to $10.09.

The prepaid card market continues to grow. NetSpend Holdings (NASDAQ:NTSP) has teamed up with Family Dollar Stores (NYSE:FDO) to sell the NetSpend Visa Prepaid Debit Card at its stores nationwide. Shares for Family Dollar Stores closed down slightly for the day at $68.46, or 0.49% on the day. They have traded in a 52-week range of $44.42 to $69.50.
