Evercore Partners Inc. (NYSE:EVR) also came in short of analyst estimates. Reported a loss of $3.4 million (12 cents per diluted share) in the quarter. Evercore Partners Inc. had a net income of $3.6 million or 14 cents per share in the year-earlier quarter. Revenue fell 4% to $102.8 million from the year-earlier quarter. Evercore Partners Inc. reported adjusted net income of 10 cents per share. By that measure, the company fell short of mean estimate of 33 cents per share. It fell short of the average revenue estimate of $130.1 million.

Principal Financial Group Inc. (NYSE:PFG) reported its results for the first quarter. Net income for Principal Financial Group Inc. rose to $201.5 million (66 cents per share) vs. $182 million (56 cents per share) in the same quarter a year earlier. This marks a rise of 10.7% from the year-earlier quarter. Revenue rose 2.9% to $2.11 billion from the year-earlier quarter. Principal Financial Group Inc. fell short of the mean analyst estimate of 74 cents per share. Analysts were expecting revenue of $2.14 billion.

MetLife Inc. (NYSE:MET) swung to a loss in the first quarter, missing analysts’ forecast. Reported a loss of $174 million (16 cents per diluted share) in the quarter. The insurance-multiline had net income of $701 million or 66 cents per share in the year-earlier quarter. Revenue was $16.7 billion last quarter. On an operating basis, MetLife Inc. reported earnings of $1.37 per share. By that measure, it beat the mean analyst estimate of $1.31 per share.

Federated Investors Inc. (NYSE:FII) reported net income above Wall Street’s expectations for the first quarter. Net income for Federated Investors Inc. rose to $42.3 million (41 cents per share) vs. $33.2 million (32 cents per share) in the same quarter a year earlier. This marks a rise of 27.4% from the year-earlier quarter. Revenue fell 3.6% to $230.3 million from the year-earlier quarter. Federated Investors Inc. beat the mean analyst estimate of 39 cents per share. It beat the average revenue estimate of $222.2 million.
