FirstEnergy Beats 52-Week Range with Disney and Allstate

Allstate Corporation (NYSE:ALL) reports having filed a $29.9 million insurance fraud lawsuit against 52 defendants in the New York area. Within that complaint, members and affiliates of a group that owned and operated a number of illicit medical clinics are named, including 10 licensed medical professionals, 22 medical professional corporations, and three personal injury attorneys. Allstate shares closed at $34.83 on Friday, up 0.66% on the day (or $0.23). The company has traded in a 52-week range of $22.27 to $34.83.

Advocat (NASDAQ:AVCA): In a negotiated transaction for $8.50 per share in cash, Covington Investments, a privately owned and expanding provider of long-term care services in Ohio, Tennessee and Florida, presented a non-binding proposal to purchase all outstanding common shares of Advocat. Advocat shares closed up $2.48 (or 57.14% on the day) at $6.82, having traded in a 52-week range of $4.01-$7.23.

Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) shares closed Friday up 0.62% on the day (up $0.28) at $45.56, following trading in a 52-week range of $28.19 to $45.80.

FirstEnergy Corp. (NYSE:FE)’s subsidiary¬†FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company announced this morning that its Beaver Valley Power Station Unit 1 in Shippingport, Pa., has resumed service after an April 9, 2012 closing to allow for refueling and maintenance. The plant is now working at 40% power, with full power planned to be reached this week. The company’s shares closed at $47.81, up $0.21 or 0.44% on the day. The shares have traded in a 52-week range of $38.77-$47.74.

ICU Medical (NASDAQ:ICUI) has lost a closely-monitored patent infringement case against RyMed Technologies. An eight-person federal jury determined that RyMed’s InVision-Plus with Neutral Advantage technology products are not infingements upon an ICU Medical patents. This unanimous ruling now prohibits ICU Medical from making claims that RyMed’s products transgress an in-force ICU Medical patent, according to RyMed President, CEO and Chairman of the Board. Dana Wm. Ryan. ICU shares closed down $0.12 (or 0.22%) on the day at $53.81. The company’s shares have traded in a 52-week range of $35.58-$53.93.
