General Electric Downgrade Hits Energy Firms

General Electric Co. (NYSE:GE) is expected to raise its dividend later this year to 68 cents annually, currently at 60 cents according to research firm William Blair. The increased dividend would boost yield from 3.8% to potentially 4.3%.

“We continue to remain optimistic that GE’s evolving fundamental trends are gradually but steadily improving, and patient shareholders should be accordingly rewarded,” said the research firm said in a note.

However, the firm lowered its estimate of GE’s earnings for 2012 to $1.56 to $1.60 a share, based on a softer-than-expected energy market.
