Google Makes Another Big Change

Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) announced yesterday, that pursuant to the updating of the design and experience of Google Search, new ad placements are being introduced in Google Search.

According to the announcement at Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) Inside AdWords, “ads that have previously shown to the side of the results may in some cases appear below them. We dynamically optimize each search page, including its ads, to provide the best experience for our users. In many cases, we have found that displaying ads below search results fits better into the user’s flow as they scan the page from top to bottom. On average, this placement performed better than side ads in terms of click-through rate in our tests.”

Google needs to experiment with new ad ideas now that Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) Siri will lead to more voice controlled search — an activity which side-steps clicking on search ads. Expect to see more creative experiments in the near future as Microsoft’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Bing, Yahoo (NASDAQ:YHOO), and InterActiveCorp’s (NASDAQ:IACI) Ask.com continue stay in the game.
