Results: Reported a profit of $105.7 million (46 cents per diluted share) in the quarter. Harley-Davidson Inc. had a net loss of $46.8 million or a loss 20 cents per share in the year earlier quarter.

Revenue: Rose 9.3% to $1.18 billion from the year earlier quarter.

Actual vs. Wall St. Expectations: HOG reported adjusted net income of 24 cents per share. By that measure, the company beat the mean estimate of 22 cents per share. It beat the average revenue estimate of $1.01 billion.

Quoting Management: “Our improved performance in 2011 is the result of the tremendous efforts of all of our employees, dealers and suppliers,” said Keith Wandell, President and Chief Executive Officer of Harley-Davidson, Inc.

Revenue has risen the past four quarters. Revenue increased 10.9% to $1.4 billion in the third quarter. The figure rose 15% in the second quarter from the year earlier and climbed 1.5% in the first quarter from the year-ago quarter.

The company has now topped analyst estimates for the last three quarters. It beat the mark by 4 cents in the third quarter and by 11 cents in the second quarter.

Looking Forward: Analysts have a more positive outlook for the company’s next quarter performance. Over the past month, the average estimate for the first quarter of the next fiscal year has gone up from 62 cents per share to 63 cents. At $2.34 per share, the average estimate for the fiscal year has fallen from $2.36 ninety days ago.
