IBM’s Watson Chosen by MD Anderson Cancer Center and 2 Other Dow Movers to Watch

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center and IBM announced Friday that the college will employ IBM’s Watson cognitive computing system to aid in its mission to eradicate cancer. Subsequent to a yearlong collaboration, IBM and MD Anderson will exhibit a prototype of the latter’s Oncology Expert Advisor powered by the system. The parties will discuss their shared vision to leverage Watson’s cognitive computing power to help patients by empowering clinicians to discover valuable insights from the cancer center’s rich patient and research databases.


Visa Inc. (NYSE:V): Current price $200.66

Worldwide e-commerce solutions firm Borderfree announced Friday that it is working with Visa in order to offer free shipping from its list of American retail clients to Visa cardholders in Southeast Asia. Borderfree created a promotion for Visa cardholders living in Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines. During the offer period, Visa cardholders in these markets may shop with a spate of popular United States retailers and receive free shipping for orders that reach a certain threshold when they use their Visa card.


United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX): Current price $107.80

United Technologies’s UTC Aerospace Systems will host an extensive display of tech and solutions for defense, unmanned aerial systems, and security applications at the AUSA Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C., from October 21-23. UTC Aerospace Systems, at booth 525, will  exhibit a broad range of technologies and solutions ranging from laser warning systems applications for land platforms and helicopters to products for guidance and navigation control.
