John Paulson filed his latest 13F, and we can infer from his holdings that he remains bullish on commodities, specifically, gold, and pharmaceuticals, while he has sold off some of his retail bank holdings.  Following are some of the insights gleaned from his filing:

Paulson & Co. acquired stakes in:

  • Transocean (NYSE:RIG): Paulson & Co. acquired a stake valued at approximately $573 million, or about 7,200,000 shares.
  • Anadarko Petroleum (NYSE:APC): Paulson & Co. acquired a stake valued at approximately $2 billion, or about 21,000,000 shares.
  • Medtronic (NYSE:MDT): Paulson & Co. acquired a stake valued at approximately $361 million, or about 9,100,000 shares.
  • Teva Pharmaceutical (NASDAQ:TEVA): Paulson & Co. acquired a state valued at approximately $230 million, or about 4,400,000 shares.
  • Baxter International, Inc. (NYSE:BAX): Paulson & Co. acquired a stake valued at approximately $259 million, or about 5,000,000 shares.
  • J. Crew Group (NYSE:JCG): Paulson & Co. acquired a stake valued at approximately $26 1 million, or about 6,000,000 shares.
  • King Pharmaceuticals (NYSE:KG): Paulson & Co. acquired a stake valued at approximately $284 million, or about 20,000,000 shares.

Paulson & Co. increased its holdings in:

  • Genzyme (NASDAQ:GENZ): Paulson & Co. acquired about 5,000,000 shares for a total position of 6,800,000 shares, or approximately $491 million.
  • SunTrust Banks, Inc. (NYSE:STI): Paulson & Co. acquired about 5,000,000 shares for a total position of 34,300,000 shares, or approximately $1 billion.
  • Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC): Paulson & Co. acquired about 5,000,000 shares for a total position of 20,500,000 shares, or approximately $694 million.

Paulson & Co. decreased its holdings in:

  • Citigroup, Inc. (NYSE:C): Paulson & Co. sold part of its stake in Citi and now has a stake of  413,525,000 shares, or approximately $2 billion.
  • AngloGold (NYSE:AU): Paulson & Co. sold part of its stake in Anglogold and now has a stake of 40,949,000 shares, or approximately $2 billion.
  • Bank of America (NYSE:BAC): Paulson & Co. sold part of its stake in Bank of America and now has a stake of 123,000,000 shares, or approximately $2 billion.
