Nokia (NYSE:NOK) design chief Marko Ahtisaari has announced that he will be spending a third of his time creating a tablet for the cellphone maker.
The company is hoping that a Nokia tablet will stand out in the tablet market and compete with Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPad, Amazon’s (NASDAQ:AMZN) Kindle Fire, and other popular tablets. Nokia admits that in order to battle numerous rivals, the company must take a different approach.
A company spokesman said that Nokia has not made any specific announcements, but will continue to eye the tablet market with interest. Nokia is expected to release its own tablet using Microsoft’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows 8 mobile operating system later this year.
