Is Target Open on Thanksgiving? What You Need to Know

Whether you’ve discovered you forgot to buy the cranberries or just want to get a jump on your holiday shopping, sometimes you just need to make a Target run – even if it’s Thanksgiving Day. But Target-addicted shoppers who show up at their local store on Turkey Day might be greeted by locked doors. Here’s what you need to know about Target’s Thanksgiving Day hours.

Target is closed most of Thanksgiving Day

Target will be closed for most of Thanksgiving Day. Stores will open at 5 p.m. for early Black Friday sales (one hour earlier than last year) and close at 1 a.m. They’ll open again at 7 a.m. on Black Friday. However, it’s possible some stores will have different hours, so you should use Target’s store locator to confirm when you can shop.

If you prefer to skip the crowd at the mall, Target’s Black Friday bargains are available online starting Thanksgiving morning. REDcard holders will get access to some deals online and in the Target App beginning Wednesday, November 21.

For those who prefer to shop in store, Target is rolling out skip-the-line checkout. Employees will be roaming the aisles so you can pay for your purchases anywhere in the store. You can also access a store-specific map in the Target app so you can find all the Black Friday bargains.

As with every Black Friday, you’ll find deals on many items at Target. An Instant Pot Duo 7-in-1 pressure cooker is $69.95, a savings of $30. Plus, you get a $10 Target gift card with purchase. A 65-inch curved Samsung 4K HDTV is marked down by $300 for a sale price of $799.99.

Target is also offering a $150 gift card if you buy a new iPhone 8, 8 Plus, or XR, and a $250 gift card if you buy the iPhone XS or XS Max (if you activate with Sprint, Verizon, or AT&T). That sounds like a good deal, but it’s less generous than what you’ll get at Walmart, where you’ll get either a $300 or $400 gift card depending on which phone you buy. You can also get $200 or $300 Target gift cards when you buy a Samsung Galaxy Note9 or a Google Pixel 3 or Pixel 3 XL.

A 23andMe DNA test kit is $59, a $10 savings, plus you’ll get a $10 gift card with purchase. An Xbox One Minecraft bundle is $199.99. That’s a $100 savings, plus you get a $20 gift card. You can also get deals on toys, household appliances, kids clothes, and more.

If you spend $50 at Target on Black Friday, you’ll get a 20% off coupon for a future shopping trip.

Target’s 2018 holiday hours

If you’re a holiday shopping procrastinator, you might be rushing to the mall on Christmas Eve rather than camping out on Black Friday. Target hasn’t announced its Christmas Eve hours yet, but last year, stores were open until 10 p.m. or 11 p.m. Target is closed on Christmas Day.
