  • Freeport-McMoRan Copper (NYSE:FCX): The shares have risen almost 50% in October.  The shares recently traded at $39.91, up $01.3, or 0.33%, on the day.  The shares have traded in a 52-week range of $28.85 to $61.35 and its market capitalization is $37.83 billion. About the company: Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold, Inc., through its subsidiary, is a copper, gold and molybdenum mining company.  The Company primarily mines for copper and owns mining interests in Chile and Indonesia.  Freeport-McMoRan Copper & Gold also, through a subsidiary, is involved in smelting and refining of copper concentrates.
  • BHP Billiton Ltd. (NYSE:BHP): The shares recently traded at $78.48, up $1.08, or 1.34%, on the day.  The shares have traded in a 52-week range of $62.54 to $104.59 and its market capitalization is $208.86 billion.  About the company: BHP Billiton Limited is an international resources company.  The Company’ principal business lines are mineral exploration and production, including coal, iron ore, gold, titanium, ferroalloys, nickel and copper concentrate, as well as petroleum exploration, production and refining
  • United States Steel Corp. (NYSE:X): The company announced plans today to sell roughly $200 million in tax-exempt bonds.  The shares recently traded at $26.53, up $0.56, or 2.23%, on the day.  The shares have traded in a 52-week range of $18.85 to $64.03 and its market capitalization is $3.82 billion.     About the company: United States Steel Corporation is an integrated steel producer with production operations in North America and Europe.  The Company’s operations include coke production in both North America and Europe and iron ore pellets in North America, transportation services (railroad and barge operations), real estate operations, and engineering and consulting services in North America.
  • Newmont Mining Corp. (NYSE:NEM): The shares recently traded at $68.08, up $1.44, or 2.16%, on the day.  The shares have traded in a 52-week range of $50.05 to $71.25 and its market capitalization is $33.69 billion.  About the company: Newmont Mining Corporation acquires, explores, and develops mineral properties.  The Company produces gold from operations in the United States, Australia, Peru, Indonesia, Ghana, Canada, New Zealand and Mexico.  Newmont also mines and processes copper in Indonesia.
  • Barrick Gold Corp. (NYSE:ABX):  The shares recently traded at $51.40, up $0.88, or 1.76%, on the day.  The shares have traded in a 52-week range of $42.50 to $55.95 and its market capitalization is $51.39 billion.   About the company: Barrick Gold Corporation is an international gold company with operating mines and development projects in the United States, Canada, South America, Australia, and Africa.
