Analyst Ratings: Analysts seem relatively indifferent about Leggett & Platt with four of six analysts surveyed maintaining a hold rating.
A Look Back: In the third quarter, profit fell 5.3% to $44.9 million (31 cents a share) from $47.4 million (31 cents a share) the year earlier, missing analyst expectations. Revenue rose 8.6% to $940.9 million from $866.5 million.
Revenue has risen the past four quarters. Revenue rose 8.1% in the second quarter from the year earlier, climbed 9.7% in the first quarter from the year-ago quarter and 4.2% in the fourth quarter of the last fiscal year.
The decrease in profit in the third quarter came after net income rose in the previous quarter. In the second quarter, net income rose 3.8%.
Stock Price Performance: During January 25, 2012 to January 31, 2012, the stock price had dropped $1.87 (-8%) from $23.33 to $21.46. The stock price saw one of its best stretches over the last year between December 14, 2011 and December 27, 2011 when shares rose for nine-straight days, rising 10.9% (+$2.34) over that span. It saw one of its worst periods between July 7, 2011 and July 18, 2011 when shares fell for eight-straight days, falling 7.7% (-$1.85) over that span.
