LinkedIn Most Popular Social Media Site Among Recruiters

Bullhorn, a recruiting software and applicant tracking company, has released a report that shows LinkedIn (NYSE:LNKD) as the most frequently used social media application by recruiters. Twitter followed in second and Facebook came in third. The study looked at activity on the social media sites by recruiters, but did not measure activity by those searching for jobs.

Bullhorn’s report showed that recruiters’ LinkedIn networks drove more activity than their Twitter and Facebook networks combined. LinkedIn postings also resulted in nine times more applications than Facebook and three times more than Twitter. The study did show that Twitter might be underutilized, as Twitter followers were much more likely than Facebook or LinkedIn users to submit applications.

The study showed that 48 percent of recruiters use LinkedIn (NYSE:LNKD) as their sole social media outlet. The recruiters on average had 661 connections. Nineteen percent of recruiters supplemented their LinkedIn activity with Twitter while 10 percent use Facebook in conjunction with LinkedIn.

On average, recruiters had just 37 Twitter followers compared to an average of 245 Facebook friends. LinkedIn is also the fastest growing social media site among recruiters. The Bullhorn study showed that the average recruiter gets 18.5 new LinkedIn connections each week, 3.3 new Twitter followers, and 1.4 new Facebook friends.
