Sirius is stepping up with a new Glen Beck channel, which is the former Fox News talk show host’s efforts at expanding his media company. Beck’s channel, which has been dubbed “theBlaze Radio Network” will be available to almost 24 million subscribers of Sirius XM (NASDAQ:SIRI).
Although Beck’s show has been on Sirius XM since May 2010, this is the first that his company will have its own dedicated channel. The $100 million deal was signed last June. In addition to hosting his own show, the channel will also have talk shows from other conservative hosts, such as Doc Thompson and Jay Severin.
Furthermore, Beck’s company will provide hourly updates on the Sirius’ conservative network, the Patriot channel 125. The terms of that agreement were not included though.
Recently in a regulatory filing, Beck’s company said that they were raising $40 million. It also stated it was making between $25 and $100 million every year in revenue. Beck’s company may also be expanding into television as well. Beck’s channel has been available on Dish Network since last September.
This move by Sirius may be a smart move because it allows them to get more conservative listeners who are willing to pay an extra $3.50 a month for an internet subscription as well. Additionally, some listeners may purchase a standalone internet subscription, although this comes at a steeper price tag.
This new channel looks like it may be a good deal for both Beck’s company and Sirius. This is another attempt by Sirius XM to increase the number of subscribers.
