Celebrity marriages like Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell or even Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson feel real. Anyone who has joined another in holy matrimony knows that such a union is not always easy, but those of the Hollywood variety usually don’t last very long. Many star-crossed celebrity lovers who decide to put rings on it often end up filing for divorce in less than a year.
Simply put, Hollywood is a bizarre place and so are the marriages that come along with it. Most of us can agree that some of the get-togethers seem like more of publicity stunts or business deals than they do true love. So, without further ado, these are the celebrity couples that we’re pretty sure are really just business deals.
1. Jay-Z and Beyonce Knowles
The couple’s Bonnie and Clyde days seem to be over. When Jay-Z and Beyonce began dating back in 2001, onlookers felt like the two were destined for endless love. They tied the knot in April 2008, and welcomed their first child in January 2012.
But rumors started to swirl in regards to Jay-Z’s infidelity. Cue the 2014 elevator scuffle between Beyonce’s sister Solange and Jay-Z. While the couple claims that the family has moved on, the two don’t seem to be very chummy towards one another these days.

2. Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner
Trump and Kushner split back in 2008 due to differences in religious views but inevitably rekindled. Trump converted to Judaism. Nevertheless, the couple’s matrimony seemed like more of best-suited choice than head-over-heels love.

3. Bill and Hillary Clinton
Former President Bill Clinton is well-known for his White House indecency, but despite the public humiliation, Hilary was relentless in standing by his side. Perhaps her reasoning was less about her undying love and more about her strategic plan to further her own political career. She may have thought leaving behind her cheating husband would limit her chances of winning the presidency.

4. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes
Rumors flew and still fly around Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes’ marriage, but a few things seem to be certain. Cruise’s dedication to Scientology played a major role in the creation and unraveling of his marriage to Holmes.

5. Melania and Donald Trump
Melania gained a lot of bells and whistles by marrying Donald Trump, but fancy homes and a practically endless bank account don’t buy happiness. President Trump refers to Melania as his “trophy wife” and the two often go days without communicating.

6. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are equally tough acts to follow and perhaps for an understandable reason. Kardashian locked in and monetized on her reality TV stardom like no other, and for that, she’s a smart businesswoman. West, on the other hand, has done well for himself in the music realm, but his bad, cocky attitude leaves a bad taste in a lot of mouths. Needless to say, the couple seems far more interested in how well-liked they are by the public, opposed to each other.

7. John Travolta and Kelly Preston
Rumors surrounding John Travolta’s sexual orientation have flown around for years. Photos have been snapped and numerous allegations have been made in regards to Travolta being gay. His wife since September 1991, Kelly Preston has endured far more downs than ups with Travolta, raising the question of why she continues to be with him.

8. Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne
The tumultuous marriage between Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne hit the 35-year mark back in 2017, however, not without some transgressions by the Black Sabbath frontman. After 33 years, an affair between Ozzy and his hairdresser came to the light. While Sharon says she fell out of love and back in again, it may have just been easier for her to stick by her husband’s side than to file for divorce. After all, the couple is rumored to be worth $220 million.

9. Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries
The marriage between Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries lasted all of 72 days, but it certainly brought Kardashian solid publicity. Considering the wedding alone cost $10 million ($20,000 on the cake alone), the fling seemed to be more of an investment into Kardashian’s career than anything.

10. Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez
Despite knowing “very quickly that it wasn’t the right thing,” Jennifer Lopez stuck it out with husband Marc Anthony for seven years. Strangely enough, though, Anthony was married just before and just after his marriage with Lopez. This makes outsiders believe his nuptials with Lopez were more of a career move than on driven by love.

11. Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere
Hollywood brings together some pretty odd couples. The Cindy Crawford Richard Gere combo was one of them.
To begin with, Gere was 42 when he married a 26-year-old Crawford, and after just four years the couple went to splitsville. Crawford opened up about the union, saying she “didn’t know if we were ever friends.”
Next: Maybe this couple was just friends all along.
12. Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner
Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner wed in Turks and Caicos back in 2005 whilst Garner was pregnant with the couple’s first child, Violet. Two more kiddos and nearly 10 years later, divorce rumors started to fly.
Affleck had an affair with the couple’s nanny, but Garner claims, “She had nothing to do with our decision to divorce. She was not a part of the equation.” The couple finally filed for divorce in 2017, but overall seemed to be friends more than anything.
Next: Perhaps this couple just married far too young.
13. Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe
These two cuties got married when Reese Witherspoon was just 24-years-old. The actress has made it clear that she was entirely too young when she first tied the knot with Ryan Phillippe. Nevertheless, the couple had two beautiful children. But the two split in the midst of Phillippe’s affair rumors. Witherspoon’s career took a dive, and she blamed Phillippe for some of that.

14. Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds
Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds were another odd Hollywood couple, but lo and behold, they tied the knot. Then they quickly divorced in 2011, just three years after they wed.
Johansson opened up about the marriage, claiming that at times it felt “very competitive.” The failing dynamics of the marriage hinged greatly on one or the other doing better in their careers.

15. Liza Minnelli and David Gest
Liza Minnelli and David Gest were married for only 18 months after their completely over-the-top wedding. When the nuptials soured (and boy did they sour), the divorce quickly got dirty.
The truth is that Minnelli was broke when she married Gest, who had experienced major success over the course of his career as a concert producer. Some believe she married him for more than just his good looks, but instead for his wallet.
