The National Development and Reform Commission in China is examining costs and prices being charged by drugmakers including divisions of Merck and GlaxoSmithKline PLC; the overseas companies are being pressed by Beijing in regards to possible price-fixing, Reuters reports. The inquiry follows a separate look at instant milk powder, which has already forced price cuts. The commission is surveying output costs and prices charged at multiple foreign and Chinese drug firms.
Coca-Cola Co. (NYSE: KO): Current price $40.37
ETF Channel is reporting that a study of analyst recommendations at the top brokerages indicates Coca-Cola ranks as the No. 7 broker pick, on average, out of the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The company also comes in above the median of analyst picks among the broader S&P 500 index components, ranking 107 out of 500. In calculating this rank, analyst opinions from the major brokerage houses were collected and averaged, and the underlying components ranked conforming to those averages.
Walt Disney Co. (NYSE:DIS): Current price $63.69
Kara Swisher of All Things D reports Silver Lake will not offer a follow-on bid to acquire the Hulu premium video service, which is owned by 21st Century Fox, Disney, and Comcast. The private equity firm was joined in its endeavor by WME, a Hollywood talent agency. The intention of bidders should become clearer after Friday, the final deadline for offers.
