Microsoft Announces Release Date for Windows 8.1 and 2 Other Dow Movers to Watch

Microsoft has officially announced that its much-awaited update to Windows 8, Windows 8.1, which will be available as a free update at 4 p.m. PST on October 17. Wall Street has viewed Windows 8.1 — previewed some two months ago — as a possible booster to reignite sales of PCs and hybrid devices that combine PCs and tablet computers, subsequent to two quarters of dismal personal computer sales thus far in 2013.


Intel Corp. (NASDAQ:INTC): Current price $22.64

On Wednesday, Ebix Inc. announced in a press release that its A.D.A.M. Health Content Exchange will work jointly with Intel to design new medical training programs for Ultrabook Devices. A.D.A.M. has already created new cloud-based medical training programs for Ultrabook devices that the company says provide a facile and cost-effective manner to learn about complex medical subjects.


Proctor & Gamble Co. (NYSE:PG): Current price $81.24

The 2013 Cleaning Industry Insights Survey from P&G Professional says that the cleaning industry has become a bit more efficient with its operations by maintaining lower costs during the past two years, creating a tone of cautious optimism. According to survey respondents, they are cutting back on luxuries less, and economic pressures have eased. However, the top causes for worry are losses of business and customer dissatisfaction, keeping key decisionmakers on guard to ensure continued improvements and efficiencies.
