Monsanto and 2 S&P 500 Stocks Spiking Higher

The S&P 500 (NYSEARCA:SPY) is down today by 0.19% and stands at 1,275. Here are three better performing stocks.

LSI Corporation (NYSE:LSI): LSI is on the top of the S&P charts in large part due an upgrade to Outperform by Wedbush. They raised its price target from $7.00 to $8.50. Wedbush’s reasons for optimism include the recent purchase of chip tech company SandForce. LSI shares recently traded at $6.63, up $0.41, or 6.59%. They have traded in a 52-week range of $4.75 to $7.74. Volume today was 10,353,738 shares versus a 3-month average volume of 8,477,820 shares. The company’s trailing P/E is 12.58, while trailing earnings are $0.53 per share.

Don’t Miss: Did Retailers Hit or Miss The Holiday Season?

Monsanto (NYSE:MON): The FQ1 report came in, and it was impressive. Revenues beat expectations by about 20% and earnings per share were $0.23, which beat estimates by six cents. MON shares recently traded at $76.62, up $3.95, or 5.44%. They have traded in a 52-week range of $58.89 to $78.71. Volume today was 5,643,077 shares versus a 3-month average volume of 4,075,220 shares. The company’s trailing P/E is 25.85, while trailing earnings are $2.96 per share.

Ross Stores (NASDAQ:ROST): Retailers are faring the worst among sectors this trading day, and they are down 1.5%. Holiday sales were just too slow, and lots of promotions ate away at margins. Ross is a clear exception to this trend, and has raised its guidance after December same-store sales were up 9%, instead of the 4.2% forecast by analysts. ROST shares recently traded at $50.24, up $2.62, or 5.5%. They have traded in a 52-week range of $31.54 to $49.15. Volume today was 2,599,066 shares versus a 3-month average volume of 2,063,280 shares. The company’s trailing P/E is 18.59, while trailing earnings are $2.70 per share.
