Nasuni Study Aims to Up the Cloud Storage Competition, Lower the Cost

Nasuni Corp. released a study today that evaluated the top 16 cloud storage providers, but only six were given passing grades. The study ranked the companies on performance, stability and scalability. Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) S3 and Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) Azure were at the top of their class, while AT&T (NYSE:T), Nirvanix, Peer 1 Hosting and Rackspace (NYSE:RAX) also made the cut.

But Nasuni isn’t releasing the names of those who failed. As a purchaser of cloud space, the company has a vested interest in seeing the price of cloud storage go down, which will only happen with increased competition. Nasuni wants the 10 companies who didn’t meet their standards to improve and become contenders, not be put out of business by their bad review.

Bloomberg Businessweek quoted Nasuni CEO Andres Rodriguez, who said, “Our hope is that everyone who is not at the top of their game looks at where there are holes and improves upon those. We want to have as many low-cost high volume providers of cloud storage out there as there can possibly be.”
