National Bank of Greece Posts Second Straight Profit and 2 Other Hot Stocks to Watch
National Bank of Greece (NYSE:NBG): Current price $6.78
The biggest lender in Greece has reported a profit for the second straight quarter, aided by its Turkish subsidiary Finansbank, along with lower funding costs and provisions for bad debt. The National Bank reported a net profit of 27 million euros in the first quarter, versus a loss of 731 million year-over-year from 2012. Beyond that, NBG said that loan-loss provisions fell to 428 million euros from 505 million.

The bankruptcy court ruled Thursday on Patriot Coal’s motion to end its collective bargaining accord with the UMWA, and also addressed Patriot’s request to alter its agreement with Peabody, in regards to retiree benefits. In its decision, the court fully agreed with Peabody’s contractual position. The company will continue to meet its obligations, as affirmed by the rulings.
