The situation according to a blog post from Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) Vice President Pauline Fischer:
“You may have noticed that Sony (NYSE:SNE) movies through StarzPlay (NASDAQ:LSTZA) are not currently available to watch instantly. This is the result of a temporary contract issue between Sony and Starz… while these two valued partners work through their differences.”
Sony (NYSE:SNE) movies reportedly stopped being available for streaming through Liberty Media Corp.’s (NASDAQ:LSTZA) StarzPlay last Friday, however Netflix users can still rent Sony films through the basic mail-in service.
From MarketWatch, “The terms of an agreement between Sony and Starz stipulates that the studio’s movies can’t be shown on Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX) once that service reaches a certain number of subscribers, The Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter.”
The situation is expected to be resolved quickly.
