Shares of Morgan Stanley were down by 1.8 percent in late-morning trading, but still are up more than 25 percent in 2013.

Itau Unibanco, Brazil’s No. 1 bank by market value, said its Uruguayan division will acquire Citi Uruguay’s retail banking operations, gaining more than 15,000 clients with about $265 million in deposits. The transfer of a credit card portfolio of $60 million that Citi has developed in Uruguay is also involved, making up around 6 percent of the market in 2012. Itau reported the cost of the operation was “not significant” for the bank and would not have a material accounting impact on results.
