Nokia’s Targeting North America
Nokia (NYSE:NOK) is making moves to regain market share riding Microsoft’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Windows Phone to the number two spot for smartphone operating systems. Nokia is currently behind Samsung and Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), after being the constant leader for years in phone shipments.
The recent Consumer Electronics Show launched Nokia’s Lumia 900, using Windows Phone. The fact that Nokia released their new product in North America first, rather than Europe, shows where Nokia is targeting customers.
The new Lumia 900 supports the high-speed Long Term Evolution (LTE) 4G Standard. With Windows Phone providing the operating system, Nokia is also targeting corporate customers through Microsoft. Just as Apple has built a support system for its line of products, Nokia is going to use Microsoft’s sales channels.
Projections from IHS iSuppli Mobile & Wireless Communications Service for 2015 put Windows Phone in second place behind Android and just ahead of Apple’s iOS.
