Revenue: Rose 3.59% to $4.07 billion from the year-earlier quarter.
Actual vs. Wall St. Expectations: Excluding the cost of increased mortgage putback reserves and other one-time items, earnings per share were $1.71, beating the mean analyst estimate of $1.57. It beat the average revenue estimate of $3.94 billion.

Revenue decreased 7.16% from $4.38 billion in the previous quarter. Net income decreased 23.43% from $939 million in the previous quarter.
Looking Forward: Analysts have a more negative outlook for the company’s next-quarter performance. Over the past three months, the average estimate for next quarter’s earnings has fallen from a profit of $1.61 to a profit $1.58. For the current year, the average estimate is a profit of $5.62, which is the same with that ninety days ago.
