Post Earnings Snapshot: 3 Energy Companies

Apache Corporation (NYSE:APA) reported its results for the first quarter. Net income for the oil-US export and production fell to $797 million ($2 per share) vs. $1.13 billion ($2.86 per share) a year earlier. This is a decline of 29.7% from the year-earlier quarter. Revenue rose 14.6% to $4.5 billion from the year-earlier quarter. Apache Corporation fell short of the mean analyst estimate of $3.09 per share. Analysts were expecting revenue of $4.51 billion.

Alpha Natural Resources Inc. (NYSE:ANR) also came in short of analyst estimates. Reported a loss of $29.1 million (13 cents per diluted share) in the quarter. Alpha Natural Resources Inc. had a net income of $49.8 million or 41 cents per share in the year-earlier quarter. Revenue rose 70.7% to $1.93 billion from the year-earlier quarter. Alpha Natural Resources Inc. reported an adjusted net loss of 27 cents per share. By that measure, the company fell short of the mean analyst estimate of a loss of 7 cents per share. Analysts were expecting revenue of $1.9 billion.

El Paso Corporation (NYSE:EP) reported its results for the first quarter. Net income for the oil production/pipelines rose to $86 million (11 cents per share) vs. $62 million (8 cents per share) in the same quarter a year earlier. This marks a rise of 38.7% from the year-earlier quarter. El Paso Corporation reported adjusted net income of 20 cents per share. By that measure, the company fell short of mean estimate of 27 cents per share.
