RIM Gets a Boost from the DoD

The Department of Defense has approved 6 models of Research in Motion’s (NASDAQ:RIMM) BlackBerry 7 for use on its highly guarded networks.

BlackBerrys have long been used by the DoD but each new version must be tested in order to ensure data security. This new approval means that the DoD, as RIM’s biggest client, will now be able to upgrade to its latest phones.

Last year the department introduced new capabilities including voice-activated universal search and Near Field Communications for BlackBerry devices.
