Results: Net income for Rockwell Collins Inc. rose to $175 million ($1.13 per share) vs. $150 million (94 cents per share) in the same quarter a year earlier. This marks a rise of 16.7% from the year earlier quarter.

Revenue: Rose 2% to $1.3 billion from the year earlier quarter.

Actual vs. Wall St. Expectations: COL fell in line with the mean analyst estimate of $1.13 per share. Analysts were expecting revenue of $1.31 billion.

Quoting Management: “I am pleased with the performance of our business as we closed out fiscal year 2011, especially related to cash flow generation and increased operating margins,” said Rockwell Collins Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Clay Jones. “Commercial Systems continued to realize strong revenue growth and rapidly expanding operating margins, while Government Systems sustained its robust operating margins in the face of modestly declining sales.”

The company has now seen net income rise in three straight quarters. In the third quarter, net income rose 11.3% and in the second quarter, the figure rose 1.4%.

The company fell in line with estimates last quarter after missing forecasts in the previous quarter with net income of $1.01 versus a mean estimate of net income of $1.04 per share.

Looking Forward: Analysts appear increasingly negative about the company’s results for the next quarter. The average estimate for the first quarter of the next fiscal year has moved down from $1.02 a share to 95 cents over the last ninety days. The average estimate for the fiscal year is $4.05 per share, down from $4.06 ninety days ago.
