Seattle Children’s Hospital Chooses IBM Big Data Tech and 2 Other Dow Movers to Watch

On Thursday, IBM and Brightlight said that Seattle Children’s Hospital is employing IBM Big Data tech to enhance treatment of its young patients. More than 350,000 patients visit the hospital each year, and thousands of data points are connected with each patient; with the new tech the facility can run queries on patient data in seconds as opposed to minutes, to give quicker, more effective care and diagnoses. Collaborating with Brightlight and IBM, and utilizing the IBM PureData System for Analytics, doctors and nurses now have faster and more accurate insights into the thousands of data points associated with each patient.
Procter & Gamble (NYSE:PG): Current price $76.06
The iconic company reported late Wednesday that it is regrouping its business divisions into four industry-based sectors. The four groups include health and grooming; feminine and baby care; beauty; and fabric and home care with each having a worldwide reach. The remake forms part of a plan through which to improve business performance, but no impact on the shares in morning trading.
Caterpillar (NYSE:CAT): Current price $83.46
Caterpillar’s philanthropic division is donating over $19 million to a suburban Chicago organization that combats poverty in 22 countries. Opportunity International said in a news release on Thursday that it will spend part of the money from the Caterpillar Foundation to extend small business loans, and provide financial training in sub-Saharan Africa. The remainder will be used in India, Indonesia, Brazil, China and the Philippines, helping it give services to 16.7 million people.
