Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT): Current price $31.21

Microsoft shares continue to move down Wednesday subsequent to Tuesday’s announcement that the firm will buy out the handset operations of Nokia Corp. for $7.2 billion. Analyst Keith Weiss at Morgan Stanley downgraded the stock from Overweight to Equal Weight, contending that the deal is good strategically, but worries that execution could hinder share performance. Weiss wrote that the deal “likely represents the best strategy for long-term success” for Microsoft, but “investors may not give much credit to Microsoft’s near-term ability to well execute this strategy” given the risks.

Ciena Corp. (NASDAQ:CIEN): Current price $23.42

Shares of the communications networking equipment manufacturer Ciena are up by more than 11 percent Wednesday after the firm posted stronger than anticipated third quarter profits and revenue. The tech firm supplied fourth quarter revenue guidance of between $550 million and $580 million, against a consensus of $551.39 million. Ciena reported that customers are responding well to its decision to concentrate on networks, giving it confidence in its near-term and long-term outlook.
