Louisiana-Pacific Corp. (NYSE:LPX): Current price $16.95

Investors seem pleased with the building products maker’s acquisition of its peer Ainsworth Lumber Co Ltd. for roughly $1.1 billion, including debt, pushing its stock up by 11 percent Thursday afternoon. The transaction, marking a 30-percent premium to Ainsworth’s Tuesday close, will aid Louisiana-Pacific in its expansion in Asia and other world markets. Private equity funds managed by Brookfield Asset Management Inc., which own some 54 percent of Ainsworth, will vote to approve the deal.

FuelCell Energy Inc. (NASDAQ:FCEL): Current price $1.36

Shares of the number-one publicly traded domestic fuel-cell manufacturer climbed the most in over three months after its backlog doubled and it reported a co-marketing accord with NRG Energy Inc. NRG, which is the biggest domestic independent power supplier, will market fuel cells to end users including hospitals, universities, and other heavy electricity users, said a Wednesday statement released after the close of regular trading. Electricity consumers may buy the systems from Fuel Cell or they may choose to purchase only the power from fuel cells that NRG will own.
