Starbucks and 2 Consumer Stocks Heating Up Before Earnings

Starbucks Corp (NASDAQ:SBUX) will unveil its latest earnings on Thursday, November 3, 2011. The average estimate of analysts is for net income of 36 cents per share, a decline of 2.7% from the company’s actual earnings for the same quarter a year ago. During the past three months, the average estimate has moved down from 37 cents. Between one and three months ago, the average estimate moved down. It has been unchanged at 36 cents during the last month. For the year, analysts are projecting profit of $1.52 per share, a rise of 18.8% from last year.

The company topped forecasts last quarter after being in line with estimates the quarter prior. In the third quarter, it reported net income of 36 cents per share versus a mean estimate of 34 cents. Two quarters ago, it reported profit of 34 cents per share. Analysts are projecting a rise of 3.9% in revenue from the year-earlier quarter to $2.95 billion.

For the year, analysts are projecting profit of $3.48 per share, a rise of 2.4% from last year.

The company topped estimates last quarter after missing forecasts the quarter prior. In the second quarter, it reported net income of 94 cents per share against a mean estimate of profit of 91 cents per share. In the first quarter, it missed forecasts by 4 cents. On average, analysts predict $3.41 billion in revenue this quarter, a rise of 7.9% from the year ago quarter. Analysts are forecasting total revenue of $13.28 billion for the year, a rise of 7.1% from last year’s revenue of $12.4 billion.

It also has dropped from a loss of 21 cents during the last month. For the year, analysts are projecting profit of 88 cents per share, a rise of 11.4% from last year.

The company fell short of estimates last quarter after topping forecasts the quarter prior. In the second quarter, it reported net income of 73 cents per share against a mean estimate of $1.14. Two quarters ago, it beat expectations by 18 cents with profit of 57 cents.  On average, analysts predict $683.2 million in revenue this quarter, a decline of 6.4% from the year ago quarter. Analysts are forecasting total revenue of $3.13 billion for the year, a decline of 3.1% from last year’s revenue of $3.23 billion.
