Starz Tackle’s Online Distribution Strategy
Liberty Media Corp’s (NASDAQ:LSTZA) Starz channel will launch an online version of its TV and movie channels in 2012.
The channel’s cable and satellite subscribers will be able to use it and according to the company’s chief executive officer Chris Albrecht, the company is also reviewing an independent service for Internet subscribers.
Speaking at the company’s investor day, Albrecht explained that Starz’s new online service for its cable subscribers could assist with customer losses, increase availability outside the home and appeal to younger subscribers.
The company currently has 52 million subscribers from its different channels including cable, satellite and phone distributors.
Starz isn’t the first channel to offer this, its rival HBO (NYSE:TWX) introduced its online service, HBO Go, in 2010.
