These 15 Ridiculously Expensive Celebrity Weddings All Ended in Divorce

Back in the day, weddings were simple. Couples exchanged their vows, ate a little cake, drank a little somethin’ somethin’, guests tossed rice and that was it. These days, the average wedding costs over $30,000, and that doesn’t include the honeymoon. Cue the champagne fountain, cascading flower curtains, and late-night food truck.

Needless to say, weddings are trendier than ever, and there are no signs of them stopping. If you think the average couple pulls out all the stops, you can imagine celebrities know how throw down the red carpet on their wedding day.

Strangely enough, no matter how much a couple spends on their wedding, be it celebrity or ordinary, it doesn’t guarantee a happy marriage. For these 15 celebrity couples, spending an arm and a leg on their big day may have been a curse. From least to most expensive, these celebrity weddings ended in the big D.

Back in June of 1993, Mariah Carey and big-time music executive Tommy Mottola tied the knot. Fit for royalty, the $500,000 affair was major. Carey dawned a puffy-sleeved, Vera Wang dress estimated to cost $25,000, topped with a 10-foot veil. The guest list was riddled with the top brass of the music industry with attendees such as Barbara Streisand, Bruce Springsteen, and Ozzy Osbourne.

So what happened? After divorcing in 1997, Carey publicly claimed that Mottola was extremely controlling. Allegedly, she had to ask for permission to leave their home. Mottola, on the other hand, claims Carey’s accusations of his controlling behavior were absurd and untrue.
