Amazon will be competing with Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) to draw in the best of the best, as the latter recently announced plans to hire more than 1,500 new tech workers in the area. Facebook and F5 Networks (NASDAQ:FFIV) are also expanding their Seattle offices, while Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) is expanding its nearby Kirkland office.

Meanwhile, the state of Washington isn’t turning out enough graduates to keep up with demand for new tech workers, so the companies are casting a very wide net, searching globally for workers.
