Liberty Global (NASDAQ:LBTYA) has gotten the go-ahead from the European Union for its acquisition of Virgin Media (NASDAQ:VMED), in a transaction worth about 17.2 billion euros, or roughly $22.5 billion dollars. Brussels said that it did not have competition concerns regarding the acquisition, although the deal would marry the second-largest Pay-TV operator in the U.K. (Virgin) and the largest cable operator in Europe (Liberty). The EU cited the nature of the business, and the continues competition as reasons for its decision.
