Chesapeake Energy Corporation (NYSE:CHK) narrowed its loss in the first quarter. Loss narrowed to $28 million (loss of 11 cents per diluted share) from $162 million (loss of 32 cents per share) in the same quarter a year earlier. Revenue rose 50.1% to $2.42 billion from the year-earlier quarter. Chesapeake Energy Corporation reported adjusted net income of 18 cents per share. By that measure, the company fell short of mean estimate of 29 cents per share. It fell short of the average revenue estimate of $2.78 billion.

Arch Coal Inc (NYSE:ACI) in the first quarter as profit dropped from a year earlier. Net income for Arch Coal Inc fell to $1.2 million (one cent per share) vs. $55.6 million (34 cents per share) a year earlier. This is a decline of 97.8% from the year-earlier quarter. Revenue rose 19.1% to $1.04 billion from the year-earlier quarter. Arch Coal Inc fell short of the mean analyst estimate of 17 cents per share. It fell short of the average revenue estimate of $1.12 billion.

Rex Energy Corporation (NASDAQ:REXX) reported its results for the first quarter. Loss widened to $1.63 billion (3 cents per diluted share) from $7.5 million (loss of 17 cents per share) in the same quarter a year earlier. Revenue rose 46.1% to $33.8 million from the year-earlier quarter. Rex Energy Corporation fell short of the mean analyst estimate of 7 cents per share. It fell short of the average revenue estimate of $35.3 million.

Valero Energy Corporation (NYSE:VLO) swung to a loss in the first quarter, missing analysts’ forecast. Reported a loss of $432 million (78 cents per diluted share) in the quarter. Valero Energy Corporation had a net income of $98 million or 17 cents per share in the year-earlier quarter. Revenue rose 33.7% to $35.17 billion from the year-earlier quarter. Valero Energy Corporation fell short of the mean analyst estimate of 29 cents per share. It beat the average revenue estimate of $26.81 billion.
