Twitter Calls Out Google About Search and Google+ Pages

Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) and Twitter’s dispute about Google‘s growing tendency to include Google+ pages in its search results is becoming more and more public.

Twitter says that by plugging Google+ in search results, Google isn’t giving the most pertinent social results. Google, however, has insinuated that it would promote more Twitter pages if it had sufficient authorization to do so.

In a tweet, Twitter general council Alex Macgillivray cited an example of why he considers Google’s new results ineffectual: A Google search for the term “@WWE” did not include the organization’s Twitter page, despite the inclusion of the “@” symbol.

Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) now has verified to Mashable that it has never indexed the “@” symbol, meaning the search engine has never acknowledged a Twitter handle when formatted with that symbol.
