Utilities Sector Review: Exelon Earnings, Southern Company Affirms Growth Trajectory

UGI Corp (NYSE:UGI) reported Q1 revenue $1.69B vs. consensus $2.13B. Results for the current-year period were impacted by significantly warmer than normal weather across all of UGI’s business units.

The lower expected earnings at Enogex are primarily due to gathering and processing volumes growing at a slower pace during Q4 than anticipated. The decrease in Enogex’s 2011 earnings is expected to be offset by OG&E, which benefited in large part due to favorable weather in its service territory in 2011.

The Southern Company (NYSE:SO): Believes a 5%-7% long-term growth trajectory which is anchored to 2010 guidance appropriate. Guidance taken from the company’s Q4 earnings conference call.

El Paso Corp (NYSE:EP): Apollo (NASDAQ:APO) and Riverstone Capital may team up for a potential joint bid to acquire energy assets from Kinder Morgan (NYSE:KMI), the New York Post reports. According to sources, Apollo’s commodities investment arm and Riverstone are planning to discuss an offer that would help Kinder jettison nearly $7B in unwanted exploration and production assets inherited as part of the planned $38B takeover of El Paso (NYSE:EP).
