UTX’s Pratt & Whitney Drives Down Cost of F135 Engines and 2 Other Dow Movers to Watch

United Technologies’s Pratt & Whitney division said Monday that it expects to push down the cost of the F135 engines it builds for the F-35 fighter jet by at least 2.5 percent and maybe more in its next two production contracts. President Bennett Croswell, of Pratt’s military engines unit, told Reuters his company is continuing its “war on costs” by streamlining and enhancing production, reaching more long-term accords with suppliers, and making modifications to drive down long-term operating and maintenance expenses.

Proctor & Gamble’s Pampers, which is the top diaper brand in the world, is celebrating the debut of major upgrades spanning its line of diapers, training pants, and wipes. By interviewing more that 9,000 mothers about what was meaningful for their baby, Pampers discovered that the first unmet need is a diaper that supplies superior overnight dryness, according to a company release. Pampers used this insight to design a diaper that mothers may count upon for as much as 12 hours of overnight protection.

The United Nations Foundation and the ExxonMobil Foundation announced Monday a new evidence-based report that identifies proven, promising, and high-potential interventions through which to promote women’s economic advancement on a global basis. The report, A Roadmap for Promoting Women’s Economic Empowerment, supplies funders, nongovernmental organizations, and governments a structure for choosing and implementing programs that successfully increase women’s productivity and earnings in specific economic and country contexts.
