Verizon ANNOUNCES Mobile Security Program and 4 Telecom Titans Attracting Interest

AT&T, Inc. (NYSE:T): Today, AT&T Louisiana officials celebrated state and local recovery efforts in regards to the results of Hurricane Isaac, and the company promised its support for relief efforts, which is to include a $25,000 donation to the United Way for the majority of New Orleans. This donation is intended to help the victims of the hurricane in the area that was impacted. The shares traded up $0.19 (0.51%) recently at $37.81.

Sprint Nextel Corp. (NYSE:S) intends to start its high-speed 4G LTE networks in 100 more cities spanning US in the near future. The LTE  is expected to provide speed that is 10 times faster than 3G. As of now, Sprint’s LTE services cover 19 metros which include; Atlanta, Baltimore, Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, Kansas City, Missouri/Kansas City, Kansas, San Antonio and surrounding communities. Sprint would add more markets in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston, Charlotte, North Carolina, Miami, New Orleans, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. The LTE expansion is a part of a restructuring program, costing over a billion dollars, referred to as the ‘Network Vision’, which intends to combine both 3G and 4G technologies into one network. This could cause efficient use of capital, reduction of cell sites, the elimination of dual networks, backhaul efficiencies, reduced churn, lower roaming charges and energy cost savings. The plan should gain $10 billion to $11 billion in savings through a seven-year period, which is to last 2011-2017. The company predicts that the completion of the Network Vision will be by the end of 2013. The shares traded up $0.10 (2.00%) recently at $5.10.

Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ): Due to the fact that Android is the main mobile platform of the wireless carrier, Verizon Wireless used Tuesday to announce its intentions to launch its own security solution, which has been named Verizon Mobile Security. Along with the protection of Android phones against any possible threats, the new service is to also assist users in locating, alarming, locking and even wiping data from a device that has been misplaced or lost. The shares traded up $0.38 (0.86%) recently at $44.62.

Vodafone Group plc (NASDAQ:VOD) investors continue to wait for Verizon Communications’ approval of a dividend from their U.S. mobile-phone venture, but they will have to continue the wait, according to sources. Verizon Wireless’s board does not intend to discuss a possible dividend at a September 19 meeting, Bloomberg reports. The shares traded down $0.25 (0.86%) recently at $28.12.

MetroPCS Communications, Inc. (NYSE:PCS): Sprint Nextel Corp. could be successful in attempting to acquire a prepaid carrier such as MetroPCS Communications Inc., according to Goldman Sachs Group Inc. A deal such as this would be more simple to complete than trying to purchase T-Mobile USA Inc., which is much larger and AT&T Inc. failed to acquire it last year, Jason Armstrong, who is a Goldman Sachs analyst in New York, stated in a report that was issued Monday. The shares traded up $0.23 (2.34%) recently at $10.30.
