Vodafone Group (NASDAQ:VOD) announced that it would receive $3.2 billion in dividend payment from Verizon Wireless, which is a joint venture between Verizon Communications and Vodafone. Verizon Wireless reported on Monday, that it has reserved $7 billion for its stake owners. Vodafone expects that the dividend will be paid by the end of June.
International Business Machines Corporation (NYSE:IBM): Current price $205.66
IBM will offer its Watson tech, which defeated humans in Jeopardy!, as a component for startup firms producing business software. Chief Executive Ginni Rometty commented in a speech at the annual meeting of the National Venture Capital Association in San Francisco, “We’ll launch an ecosystem where Watson is a service and you build applications around it.” Rometty has been endeavoring to commercialize Watson, which is a high-powered computer that can answer questions once it is preloaded with documents and websites. Watson has been deployed in the health and finance markets subsequent to its debut on Jeopardy! in 2011, and its first products for the doctors and medical researchers were announced this year.
Hewlett-Packard Co. (NYSE: HPQ): Current price $21.39
Kevin Chen at The Motley Fool reports that the company will introduce the HP Split x2, which is a new, two-in-one detachable PC, in August at a price of $799.99. Created to function as either a laptop or a tablet, the Split x2 sports a “soft-touch” coating for a “comfortable hold” and to protect against stains. Other features include a third-generation Intel Core processor, Beats audio, 13.3-inch diagonal HD touchscreen display, a multiple-gesture trackpad, and dual batteries. Customers may elect to add an optional hard disk in the base (keyboard), making for extra storage capacity. Also, the PC It comes with the Windows 8 operating system.
