Walmart Acquiring iOS Agency Small Society
A post on @WalmartLabs Blog yesterday proves that the mega retailer is planning to become a contender in the mobile arena. Walmart (NYSE:WMT) announced Wednesday that it is acquiring mobile app development agency Small Society, which marks their fourth purchase in nine months. The retailer also purchased social media content organizer Kosmix in April for $300,000.
The blog post described how the Small Society team won over Walmart executives with their knowledge of mobile platforms such as iOS (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Android (NASDAQ:GOOG). Small Society has developed apps for big name customers such as the Democratic National Committee and Starbucks (NASDAQ:SBUX). The blog also said that the company’s aim in developing an app is to save customers time and money.
“We’re here to serve people with busy lives and much bigger concerns than the coolness of our apps. If we provide them a way to save time, save money, and get done with their shopping so they can enjoy their loved ones, we’ve achieved success.”
The blog post closed by saying, “Our ambitions aren’t small – we believe that mobile can have an impact on every part of the shopping experience for Walmart customers, whether in-store or online. We’re very excited to have such talented new team members to help us make that impact.” Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) beware.
