Walmart Offers Daily Deals and Picks Black Friday Strategy

The much-awaited Black Friday circular by Wal-Mart (NYSE:WMT) is finally out.

The call was: Would customers like to stay up late for Black Friday shopping, or would they like to awaken early? Based on customer feedback, Wal-Mart (NYSE:WMT) thinks it’s the former. So, the retailing giant is getting a head-start on rivals by opening its stores at 10:00 PM on Thanksgiving.

“Our customers told us they would rather stay up late to shop than get up early, so we’re going to hold special events on Thanksgiving and Black Friday,” said Duncan Mac Naughton, chief merchandising officer, Wal-Mart (NYSE:WMT) U.S. “We’ll have this season’s hottest gifts at prices only Wal-Mart (NYSE:WMT) can provide. And by sharing our Black Friday specials earlier than ever, we hope to make buying decisions easier for parents working hard to give their families the Christmas they deserve.”

Wal-Mart’s (NYSE:WMT) Black Friday events will be held at the following times:

* 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 24) Top Toys, Home and Apparel
* Midnight on Black Friday (Nov. 25) Electronics! Electronics! Electronics!
* 8 a.m. Nov. 25 through the weekend Gifts for the entire family; electronics and more.

This time a battle also looms on the web: Wal-Mart (NYSE:WMT) is introducing daily-deal specials to compete with newer companies such as Groupon (NASDAQ:GRPN) and Living Social (NASDAQ:AMZN). Rival Target (NYSE:TGT) however, is still trying to stabilize its website after migrating out of Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN).Target’s (NYSE:TGT) website has crashed a number of times already, so Wal-Mart (NYSE:WMT) might win in the digital sphere as well.
