Walt Disney and 2 Dow 30 Stocks Making Waves

Walt Disney Co. (NYSE:DIS): CBS (NYSE:CBS) Sports purchased the broadcasting rights to men’s college basketball games from the ACC, Big 12 and Pac-12 Conferences through a multi-year deal with ESPN (NYSE:DIS), that commences with the 2012-2013 college basketball season. The agreement provides for 20 appearances in the first year, followed by 26 per year in the second year onwards, from top tier teams across the various Conferences, which will include 6 ACC appearances during the first year, and then 12 through the remainder of the agreement. Also, CBS Sports will broadcast the Missouri Valley Conference Championship game through the full term of the agreement and the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship game next year.

3M Co.’s (NYSE:MMM) Food Safety reported Monday that its 3M Petrifilm Aqua Coliform Count Plate has been awarded NF Validation from the Association Française de Normalisation, for its ability to detect and count colonies of Escherichia coli and coliform bacteria in bottled water samples.

Merck & Co. Inc. (NYSE:MRK) has been granted FDA approval for a labeling update for Isentress Film-coated Tablets, which include 156 weeks of data from the StartMRK evaluation with Isentress, in combination therapy compared to efavirenz in combination therapy in previously untreated adult HIV-1-infected patients. The study found that that the regimen containing Isentress exhibited long-term viral suppression, a greater immunologic response and a proven safety and tolerability profile at 156 weeks. Isentress is the first and sole integrase inhibitor indicated for the treatment of HIV-1 in adult treatment-experienced and treatment-nave patients, as part of a combination treatment regimen.
