Warren Buffett

Fund: Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A, BRK.B)

Increased Positions: Took a $52 million stake in Bank of New York Mellon (BK) and increased its investment in Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) by 3% to 42.6 million shares, and  in Wells Fargo & Co. (WFC) by 5% to 336 million shares.

Decreased Positions: Sold all shares of Home Depot (HD), CarMax (KMX), Iron Mountain (IRM), NRG Energy (NRG), and Republic Services (RSG). Buffett reduced holdings of Comcast Corp. (CMCSA), Ingersoll-Rand (IR), Nalco Holding Co. (NLC), Nike (NKE), Procter & Gamble (PG), Moody’s Corp. (MCO), and Fiserv (FISV).

George Soros

Increased Positions: Bought 1.3 million shares of AT&T (T) raising the value of the position to $51.4 million. Bought 897,813 shares of Monsanto (his second-largest holding on a cash basis).

He purchased 1.8 million shares Dendreon Corp. (DNDN), 76.5 million convertible notes of Mentor Graphics (MENT), and 2.1 million shares of Pfizer (PFE). He also bought call options on 705,000 shares of the SPDR Gold Trust (GLD).

Decreased Positions: Sold 501,300 shares SPDR Gold Trust and 936,895 shares of Best Buy (BBY).

David Einhorn

Fund: Greenlight Capital Inc.

Increased Positions: Bought 525,000 more shares in Apple (AAPL). Increased positions in Broadridge Financial Solutions (BR), Ingram Micro (IM), Verigy (VRGY), Ensco (ESV), NVR (NVR), Symmetricom (SYMM), and Transatlantic Holdings (TRH).

Decreased Positions: Sold shares of EMC (EMC) and Lockheed Martin (LMT).

Carl Icahn

Increased Positions: Bought 2.43 million shares in Mattel (MAT), 5.02 million shares in Masco (MAS), and 16.64 million shares in Chesapeake Energy (CHK). Also purchased more Motorola (MOT), Hain Celestial Group (HAIN), Mentor Graphics (MENT), Commercial Metals (CMC), Motricity (MOTR), Lawson Software (LWSN), and Lions Gate Entertainment (LGF).

Decreased Positions: Sold Wendy’s/Arby’s Group (WEN), Yahoo (YHOO), Anadarko Petroleum Corp. (APC), and Ensco (ESV).

John Paulson

Increased Positions: Bought new shares in Genzyme (GENZ), Anadarko Petroleum Corp., and Symantec (SYMC).

Decreased Positions: Sold shares in Goldman Sachs (GS), Citigroup(C), Bank of America (BAC), J.P. Morgan Chase (JPM), Capital One Financial (COH), Marshall & Ilsley (MI), AngloGold Ashanti (AU), Exxon Mobil (XOM), Devon Energy Corp (DVN), Comcast, and Starwood Hotels & Resorts (HOT).

Bill Ackman

Fund: Pershing Square Capital Management

Increased Positions: Bought a 16.5% stake in J.C. Penney (JCP) and an 11% stake in Fortune Brands (FO).

Decreased Positions: Sold shares of Yum Brands (YUM), Kraft Foods (KFT), and Target (TGT).
