What Is First Lady Melania Trump’s Net Worth? Everything You Need to Know About Her Money and Career

Even before she became the First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump was one of the most famous women in America. She was married to Donald Trump, perhaps the most recognizable billionaire in the country, and she seemed to be living a charmed life raising her son Barron and running her own jewelry line.

Obviously, a lot has changed for Melania over the past couple of years. But despite a move to Washington and a prominent role speaking out against cyberbullying – one of her pet causes as first lady – she remains something of a mystery to many Americans. (GQ called her “alluringly opaque” in a 2016 profile.)

One thing we do know: Melania Trump is one of the wealthiest first ladies in history. She has a net worth of about $50 million, according to estimates from Celebrity Net Worth. That’s on part with Jackie Kennedy, who was worth roughly $50 million when she died in 1994.

While being married to a billionaire certainly helps Melania’s bottom line, her riches don’t come solely from her husband. She had a relatively privileged childhood in Slovenia (then part of communist Yugoslavia). Later, she embarked on a successful career as a model – one of her more prominent gigs was modeling for a huge Camel cigarettes billboard in Times Square — before she met and married Donald Trump.

Melania and Donald, who met in 1998, got married in 2005 in a lavish wedding that cost about $1 million. Her dress alone – a custom Dior gown with a 13-foot train – cost $100,000. The 200-pound wedding cake rang in at $50,000.

Melania’s career and businesses

Melania’s modeling career continued after she married. She was on the cover of magazines like Avenue, InStyle Weddings, Philadelphia Style, and Vogue. In 2005, she appeared in a Frankenstein-inspired Aflac commercial.

Her husband’s career as a businessman seemed to rub off on Melania. In 2010, she launched a jewelry line, sold on QVC. The line sold out in just 45 minutes, and Donald was the first caller. (The line is no longer sold by QVC.)

By the time Melania launched her jewelry line, she was a mom, and like many parents, she had to work to balance the demands of her career with those of being a mother.

“I am a full time mom; that is my first job. The most important job ever,” she told Parents magazine. “I started my business when he started school. When he is in school I do my meetings, my sketches, and everything else. I cook him breakfast. Bring him to school. Pick him up. Prepare his lunch. I spend the afternoon with him.”

Jewelry wasn’t Melania’s only business venture. Around 2012, she also prepared to launch a skincare line, a project she’d been working on for roughly a decade. Developing a marketing campaign for the line was even a challenge on a 2013 episode of Celebrity Apprentice.

But the skincare line never materialized. Conflicts within the company that was supposed to produce the products doomed it almost before it got off the ground. The issues weren’t Melania’s fault, but the end result was that the line never had a chance to succeed.

As first lady, Melania has stepped away from her business ventures and is concentrating on other projects. Most of her causes have to do with children. In addition to raising awareness of cyberbullying, she’s delivered valentines and Easter baskets to hospitalized children and had visited schools across the United States and around the world, according to her White House biography.

Melania has also worked to raise awareness of opioid abuse, particularly its affects on infants and unborn children. In May 2018, she launched the BE BEST campaign. The three-pronged campaign focuses on well-being, social media use, and opioid abuse.
